Steamed Eggs for Easy Peeling
Steaming eggs is a fast, reliable way to make eggs that peel easily. Steam transfers heat evenly and reduces cracking.
Method:
- Add about an inch of water to a pot and bring to a simmer with a steamer basket or rack.
- Place eggs in the steamer, cover, and steam 12–14 minutes for hard-cooked eggs, 6–7 minutes for soft-cooked.
- Transfer eggs to an ice bath to cool and stop cooking.
Why it works:
- Steam cooks eggs gently and uniformly.
- The rapid cooling helps separate membrane from shell for easier peeling.
Tips:
- Slightly older eggs peel better than very fresh eggs.
- For consistent results, keep egg sizes similar.
Steaming is a great alternative to boiling for batch-cooking eggs with minimal fuss.
